Known for– An armed resistance fighter of the First War of Independence.

Life- In October 1857, as British forces attacked Thana Bhawan in Uttar Pradesh, they were startled to find women from nearby villages taking part in the armed fighting. Asghari Begum was among those who led resistance against the colonial army.

Legacy- She was captured and burned alive by British forces — one of the many women of 1857 whose armed defiance was written out of the histories that followed.
