About Us
A space that did not exist, until now
Indian Muslim women hold an identity that is precise and its own — shaped by India, by Islam, and by the experience of being a minority within a minority.
The Global Association of Indian Muslim Women (GAIM-W) exists to give that identity an institution of its own: the first association built strictly and exclusively by and for Indian Muslim women, connecting our history to our present and each other across the world.
Not another organization. A home.
We are not a crisis service, though we stand beside those who provide one. We are not a single campaign, though we support many. We are the thing that has been missing: a permanent, global home for the identity, dignity, and future of Indian Muslim women, wherever they call home.
What we do
To connect Indian Muslim women across generations and borders, strengthen leadership grounded in their faith, heritage, and lived experience, and support their work to improve lives in communities around the world.
Where we are going
We envision a world where every Indian Muslim woman knows the history she comes from, belongs to a community that supports her, and can shape her own life with dignity and pride connected across generations and borders.
A history older than any of us.
- 1857 — Begum Hazrat Mahal leads the defence of Lucknow
- 1905 — Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain publishes 'Sultana's Dream'
- 1918 — Sultan Jahan Begum makes primary education compulsory in Bhopal
- 1989 — Justice Fathima Beevi joins India's Supreme Court
- Today — GAIM-W carries this legacy forward, worldwide
Long before there was a name for it, Indian Muslim women were rulers, reformers, scholars, and rebels. They governed states, founded schools, wrote revolutionary books, and led movements, often erased from the histories that followed.
GAIM-W exists to remember them, and to connect the women carrying that same spirit today. This is not a history we are beginning. It is one we are continuing.
A bigger idea of what we can be.
Where others respond to a single need, GAIM-W holds together three things no organization has brought together for Indian Muslim women before.
Remember
Honouring the women who came before us, so their names, and the doors they opened, are never lost to the next generation.
Connect
Bringing Indian Muslim women together across India and the diaspora, turning scattered voices into one community.
Empower
Building the mentorship, belonging, and dignity that let the next generation lead as fully as those before them.
We are built for one community, without apology or dilution, by Indian Muslim women, for Indian Muslim women.
This is only the beginning.
GAIM-W is young, and deliberately so, because the women who join now will help shape what it becomes. If you are an Indian Muslim woman looking for a place that is fully your own, there is a seat at this table for you.
